PLACEMENT PURPOSE
Disaster Preparedness Educators increase community and individual abilities to prepare for, and recover from, disasters (ie fire, flood, tornado, etc.) through conducting preparedness & resiliency presentations in the community. Interested individuals need to have good written and verbal communication skills, be comfortable with public speaking and group instruction, and possess organizational skills to track attendance and record training results. A background in teaching is helpful, but not required.
OPEN TIME DAYS
1-5 hour (average) per week.
Number of presentations & events vary per month.
REQUIRED TRAININGOrientation to the American Red Cross
Online & Classroom training course list will be provided (approx. 10 hrs of training).
One-on-one mentoring and support from current Preparedness Educator volunteers.
