Disasters Happen, You Can Help: Disaster Mental Health Services Counselor

PLACEMENT PURPOSE
Support the Red Cross & Disaster Services by providing professional mental health services to disaster clients, their families and other Red Cross volunteers at disaster shelters, service delivery sites, relief operations headquarters and over the phone. Services includes psychological triage, crisis intervention, assessment, and behavioral health consultation. Candidates must have availability to respond at a variety of hours (in-field or over the phone), have good written and verbal communication skills, be comfortable working in stressful situations, and possess an active, unencumbered, and unrestricted state license issued by a state or U.S. territory licensing board in one of the following: a) An independent license (license to practice without supervision) and professional degree as a clinical social worker, psychologist, professional counselor, marriage & family therapist, psychiatric nurse, or psychiatrist; b) A state license or state certification and master's degree as a school psychologist or school counselor issued by a state board or education; c) A state license and a bachelor's degree (BSN) as a registered nurse and ANCC certification for psychiatric & mental health nursing to include RN-BC, PMHNP-BC or PMHCNS-BC.
OPEN TIME DAYS
1-2 hours (average) shifts per disaster response.
Number of responses vary per month.
REQUIRED TRAINING
Orientation to the American Red Cross
Online & Classroom training course list will be provided (approx. 10 hrs of training).
One-on-one mentoring and support from current Disaster Mental Health Services Counselors.
