Smith Center is a nonprofit health, education, and arts organization with a mission to develop and promote healing practices that explore physical, emotional, and mental resources that lead to life-affirming changes for people affected by cancer and other serious illnesses.
We are looking for a part-time (20 hours/week) professional volunteer for our beautiful and growing non-profit. The Cancer Support Programs Volunteer will report directly to the Program Manager and will assist both the Program Manager and the Cancer Support Programs Director in staffing programs and maintaining our community center on U St.
Program Duties:
- Host cancer support programs in rotation with other program staff and assist facilitators during their session (includes some evenings and weekends)
- Set up program space for classes, activities and workshops
- Prepare sign-in sheets, evaluations and facilitator handouts
- Maintain a clean and safe space for program participants
- Other tasks/projects as needed
Qualifications:
- Some evening and weekend availability
- Interest in a long-term commitment of 1 year or more
- Enjoys hosting events and meeting new people
- Comfortable exploring and processing through complementary modalities like the arts, nutrition, and meditation
- Experience serving those dealing with life-threatening illness preferred
- Passion for our mission of providing deep, transformative programs for those seeking healing
- Capacity to lift 15lbs and to move tables and chairs
- Willingness to help clean program spaces
