The Marine Mammal Center is a nonprofit veterinary research hospital and educational center with a mission to expand knowledge about marine mammals - their health and that of their ocean environment - and inspire their global conservation. The Marine Mammal Center is dedicated to the rescue and rehabilitation of ill and injured marine mammals - primarily elephant seals, harbor seals, and California sea lions. Since 1975, we’ve been headquartered in Sausalito, CA in the Marin Headlands within the Golden Gate National Parks, and have rescued and treated more than 18,000 marine mammals.
Accounts Payable Specialist - Finance Department
The Accounts Payable Specialist is a part-time volunteer position under the supervision of the Controller. The position will be in charge of the accounts payable process from mail processing and routing of invoices for approval through check writing and distribution for signatures. The person in this role will provide friendly, timely service to both internal staff and external contacts, while maintaining a high level of accuracy and attention to detail that is required of an accounting system.
Primary Tasks:
- Collect accounts payable incoming mail
- Log and stamp new invoices, recording date received and distribute to managers (physically or electronically)
- Ensure return of invoices routed for approval
- Inspect approved invoices for accuracy and enter into Financial Edge A/P system for Controller’s final review
- Cut checks weekly, gain signatures, mail payments
- File paid invoices
Requirements and Qualifications:
- Aptitude for numbers, detail-oriented, quantitative skills
- A self-starter with an ability to work independently and follow through
- Ability to work under the pressure of deadlines
- Customer service oriented; able to shift gears and respond to questions and take responsibility in a generous and helpful way
- Experience with accounts payable is required
- Experience with Financial Edge is preferred
- Able to handle confidential information with tact and poise
Commitment and Hours:
1 - 3 days per week (7 hour days), 6-12 month commitment or, open to an alternate schedule if needed.

Description
The Marine Mammal Center is the largest marine mammal hospital in the world. It is also a unique institution, providing three critical, interrelated services:-Rescue, Rehabilitation and Release of distressed marine mammals, including seals, sea lions, dolphins, whales, and sea otters;-Original research and data dissemination to local, regional and international scientific communities; -Educational programs for school groups, the veterinary community, and the general public.The Marine Mammal Center operates along 600 miles of California coastline from Mendocino to San Luis Obispo. Through its rescue, rehabilititation and release program, The Center is responsible for more stranded marine mammal rescues than any other institution in the world- over 600 a year.
