Explore a world of possibilities and spend time reading with the Jr. Book Buddies at the Long Island City Community Library. Volunteers are needed to assist children, 6-10 strengthen their reading and reading comprehension skills using books, magazines, comics, and other materials. This is a great opportunity to introduce kids to classic books while becoming familiar with brand new characters and stories. Requirements
- Interested in working closely with children with various reading levels; and able to work with kids with limited skills
- Able to discuss stories and characters with children; and introduce concepts such as story themes, conflict, and resolution
- Able to use various items to engage kids including magazines, comics, articles, and newspapers.
- Possess an appreciation for reading; and willingness to share and assist others
Volunteers must be available a minimum of 1-2 days a week Monday-Friday; 4:00pm-6:30pm.

- Help teens strengthen their academic skills and prepare for college as a Homework Helper or Academic Tutor
- Welcome New Americans, helping them learn English and prepare them to become citizens...and more!
