Description

Prevent Child Abuse Texas was officially founded in October 1984,by Prevent Child Abuse America and is the only statewide coalition dedicated solely to preventing child abuse and neglect.

PCAT is responsible for the past twenty-five ANNUAL CONFERENCES ON THE PREVENTION OF CHILD ABUSE that were held to promote training and provide the most current information on child abuse prevention initiatives for professionals, child care workers, local child abuse prevention leaders, and other interested individuals.

PCAT serves on a large number of state committees and task forces dealing with concerns of children. PCAT has also provided testimony at Department of Family and Regulatory Services hearings and legislative committees dealing with children’s rights,elimination of corporal punishment and in defense of the need for budget increases for the Child Protective Services Department. PCAT staff also serves on the Texans CARE for Children Board.

PCAT also serves as the state coordinator for Healthy Families America,a home visitation program for families at risk of abuse. The voluntary program involves assigning a family support worker to families with a birth of a child and assisting the family till the child reaches the age of five.
