This is an opportunity to work with people who have an early stage diagnosis of dementia and their family members/care partners as they engage together in "Music Connect", a singing and musical engagement group.
Music Connect is a modified improvisation-based music program which encourages participants to engage with music by playing, listening, singing, or moving. The purpose is to provide participants with opportunities for movement, socialization, cognitive challenge and just plain enjoyment. Think of it like a jam session for people with Alzheimer's!
Musicians will work to promote a 'can-do’ atmosphere, encouraging all to participate to the best of expressed abilities. Musicians will work with current music director to engage participants through clapping, singing, dancing, playing along etc. A background in music is desired, formal training not necessary. Musicians should be comfortable playing or singing in front of a group. Opportunity great for students wanting to learn/improve/practice musicianship, people interested in the arts and health professions.
Experience working with people with memory loss is helpful. Training is provided.
