Want to make a difference in the lives of youth? College Access Now works with Seniors in high school to help them access, enroll and graduate from college! All of CAN's students come from low-income families, and almost 90% will be the first in their family to go to college - help us make that happen!

The Franklin H.S. College Coach will work with seniors at Franklin High School, weekly, after school, for a full academic year starting in October. These after school college prep sessions are on Thursdays from 2:30 pm - 4:00 pm each week. Volunteers collaborate with a vibrant team made up of CAN staff and CAN AmeriCorps Members, dedicated to assisting students during their senior year on finalizing college essays, deciding where to apply, submitting applications, financial aid/FAFSA, scholarship research, college matching and general support through the college application and transition process.

Mission Statement

Empowering students from low-income families to access, enroll and graduate from college at rates equal to their more advantaged peers.

Description

College Access Now (CAN) empowers students from low-income families to access, enroll and graduate from college at rates equal to their more advantaged peers. CAN has been operating at high schools in the Seattle area since 2005.

CAN's vision is that all students, regardless of income or background, have the opportunity to graduate from college.

CAN actively recruits economically disadvantaged, college-qualified youth--many of whom do not seek help on their own--and provides them with a proven-effective combination of college access curriculum and intensive individual support in their junior and senior years of high school. CAN also works to increase the school-wide college-going culture of the schools it serves. CAN current serves students at 11 local high schools in King and South King County.

After high school graduation, we continue to provde services to college students!
