PLACEMENT PURPOSE
The role of the Public Affairs (PA) Team is to timely, accurately and compassionately convey information about Red Cross activities during disasters and other emergencies.
OPEN TIME DAYS
• Weeknight Shifts (Monday - Thursday): 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 the next
morning
• Weekend Shifts: 5:00 p.m. Friday until 8:00 Monday morning
Expectations are for volunteers to sign up for two shifts a month, but this is negotiable. Actual on-the-job time depends on the Red Cross response.
REQUIRED TRAINING(Approximately 6 hours)
• Interview with Disaster Public Affairs Staff Lead (phone or face-to-face)
• Disaster Services: An Overview (Introductory course - web-based or traditional classroom setting)
• Public Affairs Essentials (Basic level web-based course)
• Disaster Public Affairs Team Orientation
