Girls Rising San Diego is a local organization serving the purpose of empowering young girls. As a Big Sister you would serve as a consistent figure for your Little Sister for a 1-year commitment. Our current Big Sisters usually take their Littles out approximately 2-4 times a month, depending on the schedules of both parties. Girls Rising encourages free to low-cost activities because we understand that weekly outings can become costly, and the Big Sister should not be expected to pay for everything. Otherwise, Girls Rising organizes free events for our matches several times a year. We have an annual Camp-out, Halloween party, Christmas party, and in August, we have our back-to-school picnic.

Mission Statement
The mission of Girls Rising is to empower girls from eight years of age to early adulthood through a sisterhood of mentorship and career readiness support. Our Girls Rising Mentorship Program is built through example and community. We believe the value of mentorship is realized through positive modeling and support for girls aged 8-17 from San Diego and Riverside County areas with the greatest need. Our program for young women between 18-24, Women Emerging, focuses on career readiness and personal development.
Description
Girls Rising aims to build strong, empowering relationships through positive role-modeling and support for girls aged 8-17 and young women ages 18-24 from historically underserved communities in San Diego and Riverside counties. Our program helps girls and young women develop supportive, key relationships and allows them to feel a sense of belonging to a community that is built on sisterhood and connection.
We match our girls, or Mentees, with a female Mentor that can provide support, guidance, and opportunities to help navigate social and economic barriers and help meet their goals. Our Mentors encourage their Mentees through positive role-modeling and a consistent, 1-1 relationship. Learning from a positive female role-model on also ensures they will be able to face challenges with confidence and will be empowered to think of a future without limits!
