The volunteer, working with a professional staff of attorneys and case coordinators, advocates for the best interest and needs of the abused or neglected child before the court, as well as within the social service agencies. The GAL follows the child's progress throughout the duration of the case, monitoring the child's safety, well being and welfare, and advocating for returning the child to a safe and loving home, or advocating for a permanent adoptive home. You are well trained and have a strong support team.

To Serve the whole child by utilizing a multi-disciplinary team approach that includes highly trained volunteers, pro bono and staff attorneys, and child welfare professionals. To Provide every abused, neglected, or abandoned youth in Florida a child advocate volunteer who can be a consistent, positive presence in their life.

What does a Guardian ad Litem do?

The GAL represents the best interests of the child in a variety of ways. The GAL is an:

* INFORMATION GATHERER - The GAL independently conducts a thorough investigation on behalf of the child.

* MONITOR - The GAL serves as a monitor of the agencies and persons who provide services to the child.

* SPOKESPERSON - The GAL assures that the child's wishes are heard, and that the best interest of the child is presented to the Court and social service agencies dealing with the child.

* REPORTER - The GAL presents information through verbal and written reports to the court.
