ORGANIZATION: Search and Care

  • 4 people are interested

In an effort to find caring, local volunteers in the East Harlem area, Search and Care will be hosting a volunteer open house at La Casa Azul Bookstore on TuesdaySeptember 30th from 5:30pm to 7:30pm; wine and cheese will be served.

East Harlem is home to our largest percentage of elderly at-risk women and men, living near or at poverty level. There is a major need for bilingual local volunteers to spend an hour with an older neighbor for a weekly friendly visit, escorts to medical appointments, read to a person visually impaired, or walk a dog for the frail client who cannot afford a dog walker for their beloved companion. Let's see if we're a great fit for your generous time.

RSVP required in advance to East Harlem Volunteer Coordinator Herbert at 212-289-5300 X211

Mission Statement

Our mission is to seek out older people in the community who need help in managing life's daily activities or accessing essential services, and to provide them the support and companionship they require to live with security and dignity in the manner they choose.

Description

Search and Care is a not for profit social service agency that has helped over 10,000 older New York residents in the Upper East Side, East Harlem, and Upper West Side ranging from the ages 60-103.

Our experienced social workers, volunteers, and retired financial professionals make effective plans geared to each individual to maintain and hopefully improve their quality of life in our goal to help them remain in the community in their own homes as long as possible. Volunteers help us out tremendously in this regard!

We never charge a fee for our services.
