Valley Permaculture Alliance will be facilitating the SRP Shade Tree Program in Tempe and we need to prepare for our biggest event of the year on Friday, September 18 from 7am to 10am.
Details at: srpnet.com/shadetrees
At this event, we will be giving away more than 2,000 desert-adapted native shade trees! Over the course of the summer months, SRP participants have attended tree care workshops and have each selected 2 shade trees.
The big event is on Saturday, and we are going to have a tree-unloading party all morning long on the Friday before at the PERA Club in Tempe in order to prepare for our big event the next day. Come and stay for as long as you can, whenever you can during this time slot.
In the morning, 2000 trees (15 lbs max, each) will be arriving on the backs of trucks, and we need to unload them and bring them into the air-conditioned pavilion to set up the Tree Corral.
We'll have your favorite tunes, some awesome snacks, and plenty of water to help us through the unloading session. You can even dance, if you want.
Many hands will make for light work, so we can't wait to see you then!
The PERA Club Pavilion is enclosed and a i r- c o n di t i o n e d! We will have lots of bagels, cream cheese, snacks, water, and it should be super fun.

Trees offer many critical functions such as shade, pollution reduction, dust reduction, food, increased property value, carbon sequestration, increase in mental and physical health, and more. The Valley has an immediate need for an increased tree canopy; Trees Matter works to alleviate this need by educating the public on tree knowledge, and distributing desert-adapted shade trees to residents across the Valley.
