*Apply at www.diabetes.org/careers. The American Diabetes Association’s Northwest Arkansas office announces the availability of an exciting internship in our Programs Department. The successful candidate will focus on various programs including Diabetes Expo Committee, Diabetes Alert Day, health fairs and Team Red. This intern will work directly with ADA staff and gain valuable skills while assisting with event planning, corporate research and volunteer outreach. This unpaid internship can provide school credit, portfolio- building experience, a flexible schedule and valuable experience in the non-profit sector. Candidate must be energetic, a team player, results-oriented and dedicated to the achievement of personal and team goals. This internship require a candidate with confidence in interpersonal communication, comfort with both verbal and written communication and a passion for making a difference in the lives of people with and affected by diabetes. Benefits: * Real world experience in coordinating educational programs through mission-related activities * Opportunity to work closely with professional staff and local board members * Networking with other corporations including media outlets and retail suppliers * Gain working knowledge of public relations functions, tools, and strategies * Field experience in general business, public/media relations, event planning, marketing, fundraising and/or health education * College credit available Responsibilities: * Maintain databases, mailing lists, telephone networks, and other information to facilitate the functioning of specific programs * Prepare and distribute health education materials, including reports, bulletins, and visual aids * Assist with creation of program newsletter * Develop and present health education and promotion programs such as health fairs, conferences, and school or community presentations * Recruit and serve as a liaison to the ADA’s Volunteers and/or Sponsors * Work with staff and volunteers to collect/solicit in-kind donations for day-of-event * Assist in managing various program database through data management Duration: Spring 2015 semester Hours: 10-15 hours per week REQUIREMENTS * Currently enrolled as an undergraduate (or recently graduated) * Candidate must exude professionalism * Education in business, marketing, public relations, communications or related field * Commitment to a flexible work schedule of a minimum of 10-15 hours per week and a duration of a minimum of 1 semester * Excellent writing, research and interpersonal communication skills * Experience with Microsoft Office applications, web and social media * Ability to prioritize and handle a variety of assignments simultaneously in a fast-paced and time-sensitive work environment * Attention to detail and accuracy
