PLACEMENT PURPOSE
This is a national program being offered throughout 2014 in the Central NY Region. Using carefully assessed curriculum tools, this one-hour program provides emergency-preparedness education to youth in grades 3-5 in school and after-school settings. In a highly interactive format, the program addresses home fire safety, local hazards, coping skills and making a personal emergency kit in a pillowcase that is supplied by the program.

OPEN TIME DAYS

Initial Presenter & Project training

2 hour commitment per presentation (1 hour setup/cleanup, 1 hour presentation), not including picking up and dropping off materials from the Chapter, commuting to and from presenting site, or any additional task done at the Chapter.

REQUIRED TRAINING
• Orientation to the American Red Cross
• Basic Instructor Fundamentals (BIF), 60-75 minutes on-line course
• The Pillowcase Project Training Part 1 (web-base or instructor led)
• The Pillowcase Project Training Part 2 (in person teach-backs)


• Disaster Services: An Overview (Recommended)
• Psychological First Aid (Recommended)
• Other region specific training (Recommended)
