ORGANIZATION: Jewish Family Service of San Diego

Program: Girls Give Back engages teen girls in fun, positive leadership and team-building activities and gives girls the opportunity to explore the community through hands-on service learning and advocacy projects. Girls Give Back promotes Jewish values and the importance of Tikkun Olam while developing social-mindedness, critical thinking, healthy self-esteem, and empathy in high school girls.

Goal of Position: This intern position will support two girls' leadership programs at Jewish Family Service: Girls Give Back and Ladies of Construction Technology Academy. Both programs build leadership, increase self-esteem, and provide meaningful opportunities for community service for high school girls from across the San Diego community. Girls Give Back is a monthly program for high school Jewish teens. Ladies of CTA is a weekly after school program for under-served teens who attend Construction Technology Academy at Kearny High School.

The intern will assist with all components of the program including working with teens and parents, designing curriculum, and developing community partnerships. This is a position for someone who enjoys working with youth, is passionate about girls issues, and is able to be creative and independent.

Tasks/responsibilities:

The intern will assist with coordination of all aspects of program implementation, including recruitment of high school-age program participants, curriculum design, and special event execution.

As an intern in our office you will have hands-on experience working with a team to:

• Support all aspects of design and delivery of two successful service learning and leadership development programs, including curriculum development, research, and outcomes assessment

• Work with youth to plan and implement community service projects that impact/raise awareness around specific community issues

• Support recruitment efforts by outreaching to community groups, religiousorganizations, and schools

• Assist with delivery of program curriculum, and supervision of youth program participants during program sessions

• Assist with development of print program materials

• Secure in-kind donations from local partners to support programs

• Maintain records of youth volunteer hours and accomplishments in Excel

• Utilize social media to promote and share news about Ladies of CTA and Girls Give Back

• Assist with coordination of special events, including fundraisers, and information sessions

*please note that this is an unpaid position, although considerable amount of professional development and mentorship will be provided.

Qualifications: The ideal candidate is a current college student or recent graduate with experience in one/some of the following areas:

Education, leadership training, curriculum development, Women's Studies, event planning, liberal studies, Psychology, Sociology, Public Health, sales and promotions, advertising and marketing campaigns, social media and marketing, and non-profit fundraising.
