The Detroit Sports Commission is gearing up for its 10th annual high school football event, The Detroit Sports Commission (DSC) Prep Kickoff Classic. In this year’s line-up are 16 great schools from all over metro Detroit and for the first time Chicago. This year’s event will take place at Wayne State University’s Tom Adams Field.
The schedule for this year’s event is:
Thursday, August 28
- 1:00 PM - West Bloomfield vs. Dearborn
- 4:00 PM - Bedford vs. Dearborn Fordson
- 7:00 PM - Allen Park vs. Melvindale
Friday, August 29
- 1:00 PM - Warren Mott vs. Detroit Cody
- 4:00 PM - Orchard Lake St. Mary’s vs. Southfield
- 7:00 PM - Detroit Cass Tech vs. Oak Park
Saturday, August 30
- 11:00 AM - East English Village Prep Academy vs. Lansing Sexton
- 2:00 PM - Birmingham Brother Rice vs. Chicago Brother Rice
Volunteers are needed to help with a variety of projects during the event. These projects include:
- Team Hosts - Volunteers will greet the teams when they arrive for the event, show the teams to their locker rooms, assist with sideline setup, make sure water jugs are filled and assist with other requests the teams might have.
- Band and Cheer Hosts - Volunteers will escort the band and cheer groups to their proper locations and make sure they have all the equipment they need for the event. Volunteers will also assist with directing the bands to the field for halftime performances.
- VIP Hospitality Control - Assist with monitoring food distribution in the VIP Hospitality Area.
- Access Control - Monitor key entry points to the stadium to ensure only properly credential individuals are accessing the stadium.
- Other projects might arise during the event that volunteers will participate in as well.

The mission of the Detroit Sports Commission is to enhance the local economy and image of metro Detroit by attracting and hosting amateur sports events.
Description
The Detroit Sports Commission is a 501(c)(3) and a wholly owned subsidiary of the Detroit Metro Convention and Visitors Bureau. The DSC was formed in 2001 to enter the emerging, yet competitive, sports tourism industry.
Since its inception, The Detroit Sports Commission has hosted numerous events in metro Detroit including the 2003, 2008 and 2013 AAU Junior Olympic Games, 2004 Ryder Cup, 2006 Super Bowl, 2007 NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships, 2009, 2011 and 2013 NCAA Women's Bowling Championship, 2009 NCAA Men's Final Four and 2010 NCAA Men's Frozen Four.
Not only does the DSC help host these nationally known events, but they assist with numerous weekend travel tournaments in various sports throughout the year for amateur sports.
