Are you interested in using your writing, social media and video skills to get stories about Washington Toxics Coalitions work into local and national press. We’re looking for someone with strong communications skills to assist in media outreach. You may be able to work at press conferences and communicate with reporters. Ideal candidates are organized, able to meet deadlines, and comfortable communicating over the phone and in public.

About Us:

Washington Toxics Coalition protects public health and the environment by eliminating toxic pollution. We promote alternatives, advocate policies, empower communities, and educate people to create a healthy environment. We work with legislators in order to pass anti-toxic bills. By working with us, you will contribute to making Washington state a safer environment for its residents.

We are a small organization (7 staff) so you will be contributing directly to our efforts. This internship will provide a great opportunity to gain hands on experience in a dynamic non-profit. During the legislative season it wil be a fast paced environment to work in. We are very interested in creating internships that apply towards academic credit, intependent study or other structures that allow for the project to be mutually beneficial.

Mission Statement

Washington Toxics Coalition is a membership organization which advocates reduced reliance on toxic chemicals and the elimination of the production, use and release of those toxic chemicals which persist and bioaccumulate, threaten species survival, or cause severe injury. Through staff and volunteers, the Toxics Coalition seeks to achieve its goals through proactive education and advocacy, distributing model alternative policies and practices, challenging existing premises about pollution control, empowering activists by providing information and technical assistance in grassroots organizing, working with diverse coalitions in local and global forums, engaging in litigation, and acting as a credible and accurate information resource for policy makers and the general public.

Description

Washington Toxics Coalition helps protect individuals and families from unnecessary exposures to toxic chemicals with information on least toxic alternatives, public education and advocacy.
