Interested in inspiring and educating children on the value of healthy eating habits?
We are seeking volunteers with a culinary (and/or nutrition education) background for the American Heart Association Teaching Gardens program. Volunteers will be the primary instructor for a culinary class with K-5 students at participating elementary schools in Santa Ana, CA. He/she will teach students the principles of healthy eating and incorporate hands-on activities. There are also opportunities to work with parent groups. Volunteers and AHA staff will collaborate on coordinating activities and supplies.
Volunteers preferable are comfortable leading a culinary class for K-5 th grade students and/or parents, have some experience in the culinary industry, knowledge of nutrition, experience conducting nutrition and cooking classes, and working knowledge of education and the school environment. Fluent in Spanish speaking is a plus!
Position: Volunteer Chef Educator- Teaching Gardens Program, American Heart Association
Location: Participating elementary schools located in Santa Ana, CA area
Commitment: Flexible; One-time and/or reoccurring (Dates/Times Vary - weekdays during school hours)
About the program: Teaching Gardens is a school garden and nutrition program. Students learn how to plant seeds, nurture the growing plants, harvest the food, and ultimately understand the value of good eating habits, good nutritional choices and the importance of physical activity.
