PLACEMENT PURPOSE
Each year, the American Red Cross immediately responds to about 70,000 natural and man-made disasters in the U.S., ranging from fires to hurricanes, floods, earthquakes, tornadoes, hazardous materials spills, transportation accidents and explosions. People count on the Red Cross and Disaster Response Volunteers to help them in their darkest hour.
OPEN TIME DAYS
Disaster Action Team Members are request to commit to at least 1 on-call shift per month to stay active and trained.
Sheltering, Feeding, and Logistics volunteers are event based volunteers, usually on reserve for major disasters.
All American Red Cross Volunteer are required to commit to volunteering 1 hour per month to maintain active status with their chapter.｠
REQUIRED TRAININGDisaster trainings are provided free by the Red Cross to teach you additional skills needed to support disaster affected clients in your volunteer position. Classes are provided online on-demand, virtual web classes, and instructor led classes. As a volunteer in training, you will be given support by a senior volunteer or program coordinator for job specific tasks and policies.
