If you are good at communicating and want to make a difference in your community then Girl Scouts of North-Central Alabama needs you! Serving as a School Liaison, you will play an important role in assuring that all girls have access to Girl Scouting. You may be asked to: share opportunities, organize meetings/groups, coordinate support, and help girls and their parents learn about Pathways. The Troop Pathway is still one of the most popular ways to be a Girl Scout but now, more than ever before, there are resources available for girls to choose how they want to participate. Did you know that a girl can come to an Event or Camp even if she is not in a troop? It’s true! This flexible, rewarding position will fill an important need at a school near you and you will know your time is valued! Girl Scouts of North-Central Alabama is dedicated to ensuring that all girls have opportunities to become leaders and to lead extraordinary lives. Interested in learning more about GSNCA? Please go to girlscoutsnca.org Also, feel free to read on and learn more about our initiatives: Healthy Living Our healthy living programs focus on wellness, health issues and physical activities that emphasize values and positive strength-building exercises. These values and habits can help prevent adolescent pitfalls that include eating disorders, substance abuse and poor self-esteem. More than one-third of girls surveyed in the Girl Scout Research Institute (GSRI) study, Real to Me: Girls and Reality TV, believe a girl’s value is based on how she looks. Girls also revealed they believed it was OK to gossip about others, and that fighting is a normal part of a relationship. Our programs teach the difference between healthy and unhealthy relationships, and how to deal with gossiping and cyberbullying. Financial Literacy Our financial literacy programs teach girls how to spend, borrow and donate money wisely. We also teach them about careers, exchange rates, credit cards and the stock market. Our most famous financial literacy program, the Girl Scout Cookie Program, teaches girls five key skills: goal setting, decision making, money management, people skills and business ethics. Outreach Our outreach programs and Hispanic initiative provide opportunities to girls in underserved areas who would not have had the opportunity to participate in traditional Girl Scout pathways. GSNCA focuses on ways to minimize barriers to Girl Scouting such as language, lack of volunteers, lack of parental availability, lack of transportation and lack of financial resources. GSNCA delivers science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) programs and anti-bullying programs through this initiative.
