The VETS4VETS program is recruiting volunteers who wish to volunteer by serving veterans at risk or in need in Middlesex County. You do NOT have to be a veteran to volunteer. Many elderly veterans, both connected and not connected to the VA service system, are in need of transportation assistance because they are no longer able to drive or due to a temporary disability. Volunteers are needed to provide rides for veterans on an intermittent basis to the West Haven and Hartford areas, but also within Middlesex County. We do NOT provide wheel-chair transport at this time. VETS4VETS clients must still be independently mobile. VETS4VETS has three vehicles for volunteer use, so you do not have to use your own vehicle. Volunteers must attend a brief training, go through a criminal background check, interview/application process and provide current driver's license and proof of auto-insurance. Rides are generally provided M-F and during the daytime. We are seeking committed volunteers and do NOT offer short term "community service" hours. You may volunteer as little as one day a week or even just a few days per month.
