Want to gain hands-on experience in the Social Services Sector helping refugees? The Alliance for African Assistance, a refugee resettlement organization, is looking for a Spring Intern interested in gaining a comprehensive understanding of the social services field. Apply by 21 Nov. 2014. The Social Services Intern will emerge from this program with practical skills for entering any fast-paced social services occupation.The ideal candidate will have excellent communication, demonstrate creativity, and possess a sincere passion for helping people achieve their goals. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: Assist with client intake Research and map client resources Facilitate workshops Compile contact lists Attend Management and Community Stakeholder Meetings Screen phone calls Assist with mailings, print production COMMITMENT: The position requires a minimum 3 month commitment for 15-20 hours per week. SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS: Strong written and verbal communication skills Familiarity with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Power Point Knowledge of internet mapping applications such as Google Maps Preferably majoring in Sociology, Political Science, Psychology, Marketing or International Business or have some experience working in a social service capacity Must have a strong interest in pursuing a career in the social services BENEFITS: This position offers professional development and valuable hands-on experience in the social services and non-profit sectors. Interns who successfully complete the minimum 3 month and 15-20 hours per week commitment will receive a letter of recommendation, reference, and job development assistance. Although this position is unpaid, we are happy to provide an internship description and verification if you are seeking to attain college credit for your internship.
