Looking for a fun and meaningful way to spend your day? Spend it at the American Heart Association's Heart Walk on Thursday, October 2 at Snow Park in Oakland. The Heart Walk is a 5k non-competitive walk that promotes fun, fitness and the American Heart Association’s lifesaving research and education programs. This is a great way to fulfill community service requirements, give back to the community and help fight heart disease and stroke, the #1 and #3 killers in the nation. All volunteers will receive a volunteer t-shirt and lunch and/or breakfast.
Volunteer Responsibilities include: Event set up and breakdown, directing event participants, monitoring the route, passing out breakfast and assisting sponsors and AHA staff where needed. Volunteers needed from 8am to 3:30pm (shifts available).

Mission Statement
OUR MISSION: Building healthier lives, free of cardiovascular diseases and stroke.
Description
OUR IMPACT:
By 2020, to improve the cardiovascular health of all Americans by 20 percent while reducing deaths from cardiovascular disease and stroke by 20 percent.
In 1999 the American Heart Association set a bold 10-year goal: To reduce coronary heart disease, stroke and risk by 25 percent by 2010. We achieved the reduction in deaths ahead of schedule and made substantial progress against three of the six risk factors. Because of this success, the Board of Directors approved a 2020 Impact Goal. This new goal looks beyond helping people reduce their risk of heart disease and stroke by focusing on helping them build stronger health and a better quality of life.
