Are you passionate about improving people’s lives in our community? Is impacting the education and success of children important to you? Would you like to share your love of reading? If yes, I challenge you to take the leap!
Leap 2 Literacy (L2L) is focused on utilizing literacy volunteers as a strategy to help improve youth reading proficiency. We are looking to recruit community members to volunteer within the Rochester Public School District and in youth-serving nonprofits to help youth struggling with literacy.
L2L’s partners include the Boys and Girls Club of Rochester, Child Care Resource & Referral and Early Head Start, Civic League Day Nursery, Good News Children’s Center, and the Rochester Public School District (School Age Child Care and Hawthorne's Family Literacy Early Childhood Programming).
Additional reading tutoring increases students’ chances of academic progress and graduating on time. L2L volunteers assist students who are in the gap (those who are considered at-risk academically).
Volunteer duties include reading to children, listening to children read, and/or tutoring children one-on-one or in small groups, depending on the site and age-group. L2L is focusing its efforts on early childhood through third grade.
