Volunteers at the Festival (2012)

Do you want to help an organization that is working on solving some of the root causes of poverty world wide? YES! Super, you're in the right place. We're a fun, dedicated bunch of volunteers looking for reinforcements the weekend of the World Food and Music Festival, September 19-21.

We are looking for 15 volunteers to help out over the course of the three day festival. Volunteer shifts available in 2 hour blocks of time - your pick as to what two (or more!) hours.

Friday 11am-10pm
Saturday 11am-10pm
Sunday 11am-5pm

This is a great opportunity to talk to a variety of people about Oxfam America and our current campaign called Behind the Brands. Our booth will have an activity (probably giant jenga) and a petition we'll ask festival goers to sign onto. Take a look around our websites and see if the work Oxfam is doing all over the world speaks to you! We hope it does!

An ideal volunteer for this event would be someone who is outgoing and able to speak to strangers. We will provide training, talking points, materials and an Oxfam t-shirt so you'll not only talk the part, you'll look it too!

Join us for this fun three day event!

Mission Statement

Oxfam America is a global organization working to right the wrongs of poverty, hunger, and injustice. The Oxfam Action Corps is an exciting grassroots effort to stand up to poverty, hunger, and injustice around the world--starting right in your community. The Action Corps is a group of trained grassroots advocates in 15 US cities who organize with other local volunteers in support of our GROW campaign for policies that will save lives, defend the rights of women and farmers, and protect communities worldwide from rising food prices and climate change.

Description

When you volunteer with the Oxfam Action Corps, you take actions like holding a house party or collecting signatures at a concert. You could lead a delegation to a lawmaker's local office, organize a petition drive, or plan an Oxfam America Hunger Banquet. Anyone is welcome to volunteer, regardless of age or experience level--all you need is a willingness to make a difference. Volunteers receive continuing support from Oxfam, including campaign materials, strategy tips, and advice on community organizing. Each city has two trained volunteer corps organizers who welcome and orient volunteers throughout the year.
