Habitat Young Professionals ("HYP") is aimed at mobilizing Seattle area young professionals to aid Habitat for Humanity Seattle-King County in their mission to bring people together to build homes, communities and hope and eliminating poverty housing. By empowering our volunteers to utilize their time, resources and talents, HYP aims to help address the region's need for affordable housing while providing fun and meaningful experiences for young professionals to get involved.

We are looking for 4-6 motivated, reliable, and socially conscious young professionals to work with our Social Events and Fundraising Chairs to plan fun, safe experiences for our volunteers and supporters to enjoy off the Habitat build site. Examples of possible events include pub crawls, sporting event outings, and annual fundraisers.

Responsibilities include:

  • Attend Event Planning meetings for Habitat Young Professionals
  • Collaborate, brainstorm, plan and execute on selected ideas as a committee.
  • Contacting potential vendors for sponsorships, donations and/or discounts
  • Draft event description for use in public marketing materials (e.g. social media, neighborhood blogs, posters, etc.)
  • Assist in planning monthly happy hours in the absence of Social Events Chair

What we’re looking for:

  • Professionalism, positive attitudes, creative thinkers, and resourceful innovators
  • People with experience in event planning, fundraising, and project management are a huge plus! It does not have to be professional or paid experience.
  • Willingness to "make the ask" of vendors and venues to host or donate to a nonprofit event
  • Reliability and good communication skills (e.g. If you can’t make it to a meeting, let your fellow committee members know and delegate responsibilities if necessary)
  • Ability to commit to attending and contributing to committee meetings and events that the committee plans (meeting dates and times to be determined by Events Committee members and Social Events Chair). Expected time commitment outside of Committee meetings and planned events is less than five hours per month, depending on committee size. Remember, many hands make light work, so ask a friend to join the Events Committee with you!

If interested in joining the Habitat Young Professionals Events Committee, please send an email to seattlehyp@gmail.com and tell us why you’re interested. Be sure to provide some detail about event planning, fundraising, project management or marketing experience that you may have.
