Welcome to San Diego, CA and the 14th annual NEDA Conference! Thank you for so generously lending your help at this years’ conference. We are anticipating about 650 conference attendees, and your help is instrumental in ensuring the program runs smoothly and attendees walk away with vital information, renewed hope and new connections. It is our hope that you will be able to contribute to the organization in a way that is both meaningful to you as well as meets the needs of the organization. Information is provided below about your roles and responsibilities as a NEDA Conference Volunteer. Please familiarize yourself with these and keep this sheet with you to help address questions.

1. Provide General Conference Information:
Your nametag will identify you as a volunteer with NEDA, so it will be important to be familiar with general conference questions that may arise, including room locations, organizational questions and how to connect with NEDA staff.

2. Conference Tote Bag Preparations:
Assist in stuffing conference tote bags with conference related items following orientation from Noon-3PM. We will be meeting in the Grand Ballroom for Orientation and to stuff tote bags. Specific instructions will be provided by NEDA staff in the bag stuffing area.

3. Registration:
All registration will take place at the NEDA Registration desk near the escalators on the in the Assigned Room. Please arrive at the designated registration area on time or early. Specific instructions will be provided once you arrive.

4. Session Assistant:
The workshop assistant will greet and direct attendees as they arrive for the sessions, help ensure minimal interruptions/distractions during the session and distribute and collect session evaluations and CEUs (if necessary) at the end as well as taking a head count.

5. General Session Assistant:
The general session assistants will greet and direct attendees as they arrive for the session, help ensure minimal interruptions/distractions during the sessions, assist with the Q & A microphone management for the crowd if needed, and collect session evaluations at the end as well as take a head count (the best you can).

6. Dress Code: Because this is a professional conference, and as volunteers you will be representing NEDA, please wear 'business casual’ attire. This should entail wearing nice pants (i.e. not jeans) or a skirt and a nice top. Please refrain from wearing short cropped tops, spaghetti strap tank tops, shorts or visible undergarments during the conference (please feel free to dress as you choose outside of conference hours). Walk shirts will be provided for the conference for you to be distinguished against others.


Other Information:
This is an exciting and busy time for the organization. There may be other tasks that arise so your flexibility and dedication to the smooth running of the conference will be important. Please know that there may be other small tasks asked of you.

Skills Required for Conference Volunteer:

High Energy, positive attitude, and enthusiasm
Excellent communication skills and demonstrated ability to provide quality customer service and ability to follow direction.
Able to work effectively as an individual and as part of a team
Reliability that you will be at each event assigned and you will text the volunteer coordinator if something should arise.

The National Eating Disorders Association (NEDA) is a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting individuals and families affected by eating disorders. We campaign for prevention, improved access to quality treatment, and increased research funding to better understand and treat eating disorders. We work with partners and volunteers to develop programs and tools to help everyone who seeks assistance.
