The American Diabetes Association, Southeastern Pennsylvania/South Jersey region, has an exciting volunteer opportunity available with our Mission Delivery department. The American Diabetes Association is the leading authoritative source of information for people with diabetes and their families. Through a variety of activities focused on reaching the diagnosed and those at high risk for diabetes, the Association works to achieve its mission.

Duration: September 2014-September 2015

Hours: < 5hrs/week

Students in health education, nursing, nutrition, kinesiology, public health and other related fields are encouraged to apply

The Community Health Champion responsibilities include (but not limited to):

• Become familiar with the mission and the programs and events of the American Diabetes Association, focusing on High Risk Initiatives
• Conduct outreach, recruitment, engagement and education to diverse community members in the state of Delaware
• Serve as spokesperson for High Risk Initiatives
• Provide diabetes management and prevention information to diverse communities
• Provide on-going support to churches and community based organizations seeking diabetes information or programs
• Participate in the day of event activities for workshops, health fairs and community events
• Report to Director of Programs and Mission Delivery

Requirements:

• Excellent writing and communication skills
• Excellent presentation skills
• Eagerness to learn new things and work in a team environment
• Positive demeanor and passion for community outreach and/or health
