The YWCA Rape Crisis Department helps residents of Silicon Valley to minimize the traumatic aftermath of sexual assault and to promote safety, mobility, and freedom from abuse for all people. We provide a 24-hour, seven days-a-week crisis line, immediate crisis counseling and assistance, information and referrals, and accompaniment services to medical, police, and court facilities.
We believe in the power of our voices and yours. We listen to survivors. We hear what their needs are and we show up.
It is also our aspiration to inspire you to lend YOUR voice for this movement.
How can you begin advocating for change? Volunteer with our Rape Crisis Department. This opportunity allows you to become a certified Rape Crisis Counselor while lending your support to those who need it.
Responsibilities include:
- Responding to crisis line calls.
- Accompanying sexual assault survivors to Santa Clara Valley Medical Center to provide advocacy and emotional support.
Volunteer requirements:
- Complete CA state 40-hour mandatory Sexual Assault Counselor training.*
- Commit to at least one four-hour crisis line shift per week.
- Commit to two weekend crisis line shifts every 9 months.
- Attend monthly in-service meetings to maintain certification.
- Applicants are required to be at least 18 years of age.

*Training is free in exchange for a minimum of 9 months of service

The YWCA Rape Crisis Center helps residents of Silicon Valley to minimize the traumatic aftermath of sexual assault and to promote safety, mobility, and freedom from abuse for all people. We provide a 24-hour, seven days-a-week crisis hotline, immediate crisis counseling and assistance, information and referrals, and accompaniment services to medical, police, and court facilities. Our services are provided at no cost for all survivors of sexual assault or abuse, as well as their loved ones.
