ORGANIZATION: American Red Cross - Southern Nevada Chapter

Work with the American Red Cross Southern Nevada Chapter, serving alongside paid and volunteer staff, provide direct service to clients of the American Red Cross through the accomplishment of National Preparedness & Response Corps goals and objectives. Members will complete projects that enhance organizational service delivery, expand community resources while developing their professional skill base throughout the Southern Nevada Chapter.

This position will specifically focus on:

  1. Recruit, train, and lead volunteers to increase disaster response capacity
  2. Conducting community disaster education (CDE) to ensure families are better prepared for disaster
  3. Respond directly to local and beyond local disaster events
  4. Complete one service project aligned with Red Cross mission consistent with NPRC program intentions

Position Requirements

  • Willing to make an 11 month, full-time commitment and complete a minimum of 1700 hours of service.
  • At least 18 years of age by the start of the program.
  • A U.S. Citizen, U.S. National or lawful permanent resident alien of the U.S.
  • High school diploma or GED. College degree highly desired.
  • Current valid driver’s license and a clean driving record.
  • Lift 35 pounds. Sit and stand for long periods of time.
  • Ability to live and work in compromised environments including sleeping on a camping cot in a congregate shelter during times of deployments
  • Previous successful experience working with diverse populations.
  • At least one year of volunteer or community service experience.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills.
  • Excellent public speaking skills.
  • Ability to be deployed on national, regional and local disaster relief operations lasting three weeks.
  • Demonstrated professionalism, flexibility and initiative.
  • Team-oriented.
  • Bilingual Spanish a plus.

The American Red Cross, a humanitarian organization led by volunteers and guided by its congressional charter and the Fundamental Principles of the International Red Cross movement, will provide relief to victims of disasters and help people prevent, prepare for, and respond to emergencies.

Description

The American Red Cross serves the Southern Nevada Community in a variety of different capacities. Ninety-seven percent of our workforce is volunteers.

Staff and volunteers have responded to local and national disasters including fires, floods, hurricanes and earthquakes, providing immediate emergency assistance such as food, clothing and temporary lodging.

Last year, 22,780 people were instructed in CPR/First Aid, Lifeguarding and other water safety instruction, Babysitter Training and HIV Awareness.
Your local chapter provide counseling, emergency communications and financial assistance to over 1,000 military service personnel and their families.
