Cornerstone Assistance Network needs a Program Support Specialist AmeriCorps VISTA member to serve with Readers 2 Leaders (R2L), which is located at 2223 Singleton Blvd, Suite 140, Dallas, TX.
Volunteer Position Start/End Dates:
November 4, 2014 - November 7, 2015
Pay:
$983 per month BEFORE taxes
Hours:
Full-time, 40 hours/week
The mission of R2L is to develop and grow the reading skills of children in West Dallas ages 3-10 so that they succeed in school, graduate, and leave school prepared to live productive lives. R2L tutoring sites include 5 schools in the Dallas Independent School District and 1 after-school program.
Readers 2 Leaders is currently seeking a student support specialist who will report on student data and create/implement individualized student educational support plans. Goals of the position will be to help Readers 2 Leaders to increase program site achievement by an average of 15 percentile points on a nationally-normed reading test. Specific duties will include
1) Supporting Readers 2 Leaders' Team Read tutoring program
2) Reporting to the Director of Team Read & helping to test/assess students, record & aggregate data reports, & make recommendations to program staff as to individual student needs
3) Working with a partner VISTA to create a pilot program that identifies 90 students in need of additional educational support within the larger program
4) Working with a partner VISTA to identify individual student needs & to monitor these students with additional assessments & specific lessons that will maximize R2L tutoring sessions.
5) Training classroom teaching assistants to implement student-level/highly-strategic tutoring.

Some college - Associate's degree
Required Skills:
It's highly desired for the VISTA to have experience in education/tutoring, knowledge of Excel, and/or data reporting and management for this position. Other required skills include the following: Youth Development, Leadership, Teaching/Tutoring, Education, Team Work, General Skills, Computers/Technology, Writing/Editing.
