ORGANIZATION: Quincy Asian Resources, Inc. (QARI)

  • 7 people are interested

Quincy Asian Resources, Inc. (QARI) is seeking volunteers to help out in various capacities in our ESOL program.

QARI is a non-profit organization on Hancock Street in Quincy Center. Among other services, we have one of the largest programs teaching English to speakers of other languages (ESOL) in Quincy. We have a variety of ESOL classes, all of which are either free to students or grant-subsidized and offered at a heavy discount to students.

Volunteers are a crucial part of our program, and we are now hoping to expand our volunteer base. Many of our volunteers meet with students after class to review class material or hold informal conversation groups. Others sit in during class to provide individual assistance to struggling students. Still others have organized more formal classes to offer our students. We can also always use help in various administrative functions.

We welcome any applicants who have an interest in helping our newcomer community to develop the language skills they need to succeed in the US. Teaching experience is a plus, but not required. Though meeting times can be quite flexible, we do ask that volunteers commit to a regular schedule, usually at least one hour per week. We conduct a criminal background check on all our volunteers.
