L.A. Works Day of Service 2014

Save to Favorites

ORGANIZATION: L.A. Works

Los Angeles’ ethnic and racial diversity has defined the city’s history and culture. The huge ethnic enclaves here, from Koreans to Chinese, Salvadorans to Bangladeshi, have offered a central location for marketing goods and services to the ethnic community and preserving cultural identity. Minorities own nearly four of 10 small firms in Los Angeles County. An area like Boyle Heights, at 95 percent Latino, is an important culturally enriched community that should not be overlooked. Time spent volunteering will make a difference in building the Los Angeles community as a whole. As teams join together to volunteer, walls come down and doors open. On L.A. Works Day, your time matters. Come and make a personal connection to your fellow Angeleno and your community.

About the Event:
On September 6, 2014 more than a thousand corporate and community volunteers will roll up their sleeves and paint, plant, landscape and build as they work together to revitalize a community oasis nestled in six square blocks of the Boyle Heights neighborhood. Within this East Los Angeles site are two Los Angeles Unified School District title one schools where at least 40% of the students are from low-income families, a public pre-school, a city park, and a community garden. Teams of volunteers participating in the day will include: elected officials; large corporations and small local businesses; schools and universities; local community members; families; and groups from the entertainment industry and sports teams.

To learn more about the day’s festivities and to sign up, please visit the event page on our website: http://tinyurl.com/ofqepy9 . We encourage groups to sign up! The event is open for volunteers at least 5 years of age.
