Mission Statement

We will provide service similar to what "locks of love" does but instead of using human hair wigs we will have high quality synthetic wigs thus reducing the price from around $6,000 for a human hair wig to $100 for a synthetic wig.

The normal application time for a patient to get a yes or no to see if they qualify for a wig with other programs is usually a month up to several months.

Since synthetic wigs are not so cost prohibitive we will be able to say yes to almost everyone who needs one with a medical diagnosis of hair loss.

I am in the very beginning stages of starting a volunteer group to help cancer patients get wigs quickly. Most other programs that offer wigs to cancer patients have a long application process and it can take months to find out if they will even receive a wig. I want our project to be able to provide patients with service within a week. I also want to educate hair stylists and makeup artists around the country how to work with these wigs and if needed they can visit a patient in their home or hospital and show the patient how to use the wig and makeup.

Since I am in the very beginning phase I need to find people who want to be co-founders. I have the company registered in the state of California but in order to get Federal 501(c) status I will need a few more people who will commit to getting this project off the ground.

If you want to take part in this project be aware that the next few months will consist of mostly brainstorming a couple of hours a week at most. I have a 60 hour a week job so my time is very limited. Once we get this project off the ground and funds start coming in I intend to work as an employee at minimum wage that way I can devote 100% of my time to this project. We will also have to hire or consult with someone who has extensive experience in running a non-profit.

Description

We will ask large wig companies if they can donate to us new wigs as well as the thousands that they do not sell each year. We will send them to our volunteer stylists who will be around the country. When a call comes in that someone needs a wig we can have the stylist meet the patient at their home or hospital. We will train the stylists how to cut the wigs and customize them to each patient. With monies that we raise we will also stock many current wigs.

We will recruit stylists at many of the hair and makeup shows that beauty professionals attend each year. Tens of Thousands of stylists attend these conventions every year to get continuing education.
