ORGANIZATION: The Forgotten Ones, Inc.

We are currently looking for an individual with retail store management experience.

Your duties will include but are not limited to:

  1. Pricing items at market rate.
  2. Scheduling volunteers to operate the register.
  3. Opening and closing the store.
  4. Sorting donations into donate, recycle, sell categories.
  5. Over seeing community service volunteers.
  6. Maintaining a neat, clean and friendly store environment.
  7. Improving sales volume.

This volunteer position can turn into employment for the right candidate! A trial volunteer period of 2 to 3 months is required before being hired.

Description

The Forgotten Ones, Inc. is a 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization in Oviedo, FL. Our public charity status is 509 (a) (2). The mission of our agency is to provide relief for disadvantaged young adults and families who need assistance with basic human needs.

Our agency includes a Thrift Store and The Resource Center. The Thrift Store receives donations of gently used goods and proceeds assist with funding program services for The Resource Center where we provide client services. Our agency also hosts an open community event for everyone called The Last Saturday of The Month that provides free lunch, free groceries, and free haircuts. Over 5,879 people in our community have been served through The Resource Center since 2011. Of these, 4,281 were served at our Last Saturday of the Month events. More than 50% of those served were families. The Resource Center has provided case management services for 523 clients to date. All clients receive a completed intake. Services provided include:

  • Emergency food
  • Free bread and pastries
  • Emergency financial assistance
  • Emergency clothing
  • Help with obtaining social security cards, birth certificates, identification cards, driver’s licenses
  • Applying and reapplying for food stamps/Medicaid, assistance with benefit applications
  • Job assistance and workforce programs
  • Bus passes
  • Eligibility applications for free eyeglasses and free cell phones.

The Thrift Store also provides several types of volunteer work opportunities for the community including our Ministry Relief efforts for Haiti and Africa. We have student volunteers from area high schools and colleges. We also have volunteers from local churches, community groups, and individuals. We provide mentoring and counseling through court approved community service volunteer hours with emphasis on prevention of engaging in any further criminal activity. Community service volunteers have provided over 14,809 volunteer work hours to our agency Ministry Relief and Donations since 2011.
