Mission Statement
FARE
Dedicated to Food Allergy Research & Education
The nation’s two leading food allergy organizations, The Food Allergy Initiative (FAI) and the Food Allergy & Anaphylaxis Network (FAAN), have united to advance a cure and promote education for food allergy, a severe and potentially life-threatening disease. The merger combines FAAN’s expertise as the most trusted source of information, programs, and resources related to food allergy and anaphylaxis with FAI’s leadership as the world’s largest private source of funding for food allergy research. The new organization will be known as FARE.
Description
For the past twenty years FAAN has worked to build public awareness of food allergy through the media and education efforts, and conducted seminars and training sessions on food allergy and anaphylaxis for patients, school staff, government officials, health professionals, restaurant and industry leaders, and other policymakers. To advocate on behalf of families with food allergies, FAAN has worked on federal, state, and local initiatives in areas such as food labeling, epinephrine availability, and management of food allergies in schools, camps, airlines, and restaurants.
FAI, founded in 1998, has served as the world’s largest private funding source for food allergy research. In addition to supporting research to find a cure, FAI has supported clinical programs to improve diagnosis and treatment, public policy to increase federal funding for research and to create safer environments for those with food allergy, and educational initiatives to heighten awareness and understanding of the condition. To date, FAI has committed nearly $77 million toward the fulfillment of its mission.
Building on the significant accomplishments of FAAN and FAI over the past two decades, FARE’s mission is to ensure the safety and inclusion of individuals with food allergies while relentlessly seeking a cure. The organization will accomplish this by:
- Funding world-class research that advances treatment and understanding,
- Providing evidence-based education and resources,
- Undertaking advocacy at all levels of government, and
- Increasing awareness of food allergies as a serious public health issue
