We are looking for volunteers who wish to be involved directly with families in a meaningful way. Volunteer Facilitators work directly with our peer support group programs for children ages 4-18 or in our concurrent caregiver groups. If you care deeply about children/teens and love to listen to them; if you are capable of tolerating sadness; if you are able to appreciate the joy and hidden gifts within children; if you are willing to share your own humanity; and, if you are willing to make a commitment of time and energy, we have a place for you.

We ask that volunteers make a one year commitment to the Center from September to June meeting every other week for group in our East Falls or West Philadelphia locations.

If you are interested in being part of this rewarding work, we'd like to hear from you. Volunteers are required to take our training course, complete a criminal and child abuse background check, and are asked to commit to one year of service.

About Uplift Center for Grieving Children

Location:

3300 Henry Ave, 110, Philadelphia, PA 19124, US

Mission Statement

The mission of The Center is to help children grieving a death to heal and grow through their grief, while strengthening families, communities and professionals’ understanding of how best to respond to their needs.

Description

The Center provides free peer grief support groups for children, teens and their caregivers. Children and teens groups meet every other week for their support group where they participate in discussion, expressive games and creative arts. All of these activities give the participants an opportunity to express their thoughts, feelings, memories and emotions about the person who has died in their family. While the children and teens meet a concurrent caregiver group meets in a separate room. The groups are held after school hours from September to June in East Fall and West Philadelphia.

Caring adult volunteers are trained by The Center and assist with facilitating both the children and caregiver groups.
