Grace Cafe is a program of The Center-Philadelphia @ Arch Street UMC on Sunday Evenings. Grace Cafe is a restaurant style meals serve welcoming all of our neighbors, especially center city's most vulnerable citizens, those currently experiencing homelessness and food insecurity. Individual and GROUP volunteer opportunities are available to partner with us to support Grace Cafe on Sunday evenings, every Sunday night of the year.

Responsibilities for Grace Cafe volunteer groups include: preparing and serving a hot meal (entree, vegetable and dessert) for 150-200 guests. Coffee, tea and other beverages as well as dishes, silverware, serve ware and paper products are provided by ASUMC. Meeting, greeting and sharing with Grace Cafe guests during the Sunday Evening meal.

Due to COVID-19, we have shifted to a to-go meal serve. Updated volunteer description follows.Individual and Group volunteers arrive at 3:30 pm to package meals, prepare to-go bags, and hand out the meals. The evening typically concludes with clean up following the meal about 7:00PM.

No prior experience necessary! We will orient you! Just bring your smile and willingness to be in community with our neighbors. We are an LGBTQIA+ affirming and justice-seeking community. We welcome volunteers and guests from all faith traditions.

Group wishing to serve as a meal host should schedule in advance at the information below. Individual volunteers are welcome to join us any Sunday at 3:30PM for orientation and to volunteer. Every Sunday from 5:30 to 7:00 PM, Arch Street welcomes 150 - 200 of our homeless neighbors for dinner and fellowship in our Grace Café.

  • Orientation or Training
  • The commitment for each Sunday is 3 1/2 hours (3:30PM-7PM). We have volunteers that serve with us once each year and some who volunteer weekly or monthly. All are welcome!
  • Please come with a water bottle, comfortable clothes to volunteer in, sturdy shoes.
