Mission Statement

Arizona Conservation Corps, a program of Conservation Legacy, aims to continue the legacy of the Civilian Conservation Corps of the 1930s. AZCC is focused on connecting youth, young adults and recent era military veterans with conservation service work projects on public lands. Our programs promote personal growth, experiential learning and an ethic of natural resource stewardship while incorporating the guiding principles of community, dedication, challenge, integrity and FUN!

Description

Arizona Conservation Corps (AZCC) provides young women and men with structured, safe and challenging service and educational opportunities. AZCC is part of the Conservation Legacy (formerly Southwest Conservation Corps) that was founded in 1998 to continue the legacy of the Civilian Conservation Corps of the 1930s. Conservation Legacy also supports other nationwide conservation programs including: Southwest Conservation Corps, Environmental Stewards and Southeast Youth Corps.

AZCC offers year-round opportunities based in regional offices located in Flagstaff and Tucson, AZ. AZCC operates a continuum of programs from community-based initiatives for younger teens to residential camping crews for high school and college aged individuals along with leadership programs for college graduates and job training programs specifically for current era veterans. Programs are completed in partnership with public land agency managers and most are AmeriCorps programs.

AZCC service projects take place throughout the state of Arizona and southern New Mexico. On most projects Corpsmembers work and learn together in teams with up to six crewmembers and 2 crew leaders. AZCC has both camping crews and urban day crews and offers a diverse experience for members. Projects include and are not limited to fuels reduction, desert restoration, tree planting, trail-building and maintenance, community service projects, fencing and non-native plant removal.

Corpsmembers earn a living allowance while learning valuable work and life skills. Innately, through the program structure, AZCC places a strong focus on leadership development and environmental stewardship. AZCC’s strengths lie not only in its service project accomplishments, but also in its ability to provide a viable work force to the region while offering exceptional educational and engaging opportunities to participants.
