ORGANIZATION: Arthritis Introspective

Join Arthritis Introspective the nation’s only nonprofit dedicated to improving the lives of young - and middle-aged adults living with arthritis and rheumatic diseases through wellness education, empowerment and support groups.

We are looking for Grant Writers and Development interns who would be responsible for researching, identifying and responding to grant opportunities, which meets the needs of Arthritis Introspective, seeing the grant proposal through from start to finish. Specifically we are seeking a go getter to source funding and grants and corporate gifts for the Support Group program. You will be working directly with the Vice President and Marketing Board Chairperson.

Responsibilities:

  • Prepare, submit and manage grant proposals and corporate giving applications
  • Perform prospect research on foundations and corporations to evaluate prospective grants
  • Comply with all grants as required by corporate/foundation donors
  • Establish and maintain good rapport with current donors
  • Create and maintain accurate records in database of all grants and donations
  • Track statistics relevant to development and report metrics and data to donors as needed
  • Familiarize yourself with AI’s programs, goals and financial needs
  • Other duties as assigned may include working with AIs executive board, planning fund-raising campaigns and promoting the organization through public relations work

Qualifications:

  • Grant writing and research skills or educational background in grant writing/research
  • Knowledge of grant opportunities and resources a plus Excellent communication/writing skills and strong organizational skills
  • Self-starter, able to use independent judgment and take initiative
  • Experience or educational background in analytics, able to synthesize data and present it in a clear way to support grant applications
  • Able to produce quality work in tight time constraints

Requirements: Volunteers must have previous grant writing experience and be at least 18 years of age.

Time Commitment: We ask that volunteers commit to at least a period of three months or longer.

This position is voluntary. Initially we will meet in West LA and then most tasks can be done virtually. This is an opportunity to truly make a difference in our community. Leadership growth is encouraged.

ABOUT ARTHRITIS INTROSPECTIVE: Arthritis Introspective, a 501 (c)(3) non-profit, was established in December 2007 to serve young- and middle aged adults living with any form of arthritis and related rheumatic diseases. AI is 100% volunteer-driven organization patient led and relies solely on group fundraising efforts; individual, community and corporate grants; donations; and sponsorships.

Mission: The mission of Arthritis Introspective is to improve the lives of young- and middle-aged adults living with arthritis and rheumatic diseases through wellness education, empowerment, and support groups.

Vision: To ensure that people with any form of arthritis and rheumatic disease are empowered to not just survive with arthritis but thrive!

Goals:

  • To foster AI Support Groups for young- and middle-aged adults living with arthritis to help them overcome the physical and psychological challenges of severe chronic illness.

  • To host the Annual National Gathering, a three-day conference focused on wellness, education, and empowerment for people and their loved ones from around the country.

  • To provide arthritis information, empowerment, support, and networking opportunities through our website, www.arthritisintrospective.org.

We are a small, but quickly growing organization looking to expand our efforts in creating support systems groups across the US. Interns will provide substantial contributions to our organization’s growth and be truly integrated members of our team. We are looking for people who are flexible, proactive, responsible, and passionate.

Almost all of our opportunities can be done remotely by volunteers who are making a difference for adults living with arthritis in all stages of adulthood.

Arthritis Support Networks are part of an expanding range of Arthritis Foundation resources that provides personalized help & support to adults with all types of arthritis and rheumatic conditions. Our peer-led, local support networks offer connection, education and empowerment.

How we fulfill our goal:

Local Outreach

Local networks provide a supportive social connection. Groups are guided by trained volunteer leaders and are tailored to each group’s needs. Group members become self-advocates and develop self-management skills.

Annual Conference Gathering

Each year conference attendees meet for a multi-day education event geared toward learning, bonding, and developing important skills in leadership and mutual support.

Connection

Connect online with others for support and inspiration. Participants can share stories and learn from the experiences of others with arthritis.

Groups meet at least six times a year and feature a combination of educational and social activities that are inclusive to people living with all types of arthritis.

Trained volunteer leaders share a common goal of bringing people together for activities focused on mutual support and positive coping strategies for living well.
