This volunteer opportunity is a fun way to help bring fresh, healthy, local produce to your community and livelihood to local farmers. All Fairfax County markets overseen by the Park Authority are run by our local Market Master vounteers. It is these volunteers who make it possible for the market to function, providing on the ground support to ensure markets run smoothly

Description:

We are looking for 2-3 farmers market volunteers (Market Masters & Assistant Market Master) per market ( 11 in Fairfax County) to oversee the weekly operations and provide insight into ways in which markets can be improved. Volunteers should be outgoing local food enthusiasts, who enjoy connecting community members with local farmers.

We are especially in need at the McLean, Mt. Vernon/McCutcheon & Annandale markets for assistent MMs.

Responsibilities:

Manage and evaluate a Farmer’s Market held one day per week during the six-month season. Supervise the timely setup, opening, operation, and closing of the market. On market day, arrive one hour prior to opening time to assist vendors in finding their allotted space. Place signs on the appropriate street locations. Take vendor attendance. Open the market punctually. Assist vendors and customers throughout the market as needed and assure that market is conducted under applicable rules and regulations. Close the market punctually. Collect all signs and assure vendors clean their spaces before they leave. If necessary, forward any written complaints to the Farmer’s Market Coordinator.

Prefer a one-year commitment. Some pre-season organizational meetings are held; otherwise, one morning (usually 7:00a.m.--1:00 p.m.) per week during market season from May through November
