Foster Grandparents and Elder Mentors work with children in schools and other community based settings. By providing individualized help with school work, modeling social and cultural values and by offering emotional support to children who need some extra care and help, you can have a powerful impact on Alaska's future - and even earn a small, tax exempt stipend! If you are a low-income senior, with a passion for helping children, we need you!

Mission Statement
The Rural Alaska Community Action Program, Inc. (RurAL CAP), founded in 1965, is a private, statewide, nonprofit organization working to improve the quality of life for low-income Alaskans. Governed by a 24-member Board of Directors, we represent every region of the state as one of the largest and most diverse nonprofit organizations in Alaska. We value input from and have respect for all people. We believe that Alaskans have the right to maintain their cultural heritage and close relationship to the land while protecting their economic and human potential.
Description
Our programs in early education, housing, and health and well-being serve to alleviate the root causes of poverty. We deliver innovative, community-driven solutions in response to Alaska’s most challenging needs while supporting vulnerable individuals and communities statewide. As Alaska’s only Community Action Agency, we’ve focused our efforts to deliver services in all aspects of the fight against poverty and strive to instill individual empowerment. We rally behind the core of our mission - to empower low-income Alaskans through advocacy, education, affordable housing, and direct services that respect our unique values and cultures - we align our service areas to uphold our agency pillars of respect for people and continuous improvement through Rural Housing, Family Services, and Community Development.
