Are you passionate about making a difference in the world? Do you want to have an opportunity to help contribute to the alleviation of poverty? Holocaust Community Services (HCS), a program administered by Jewish Child & Family Services in partnership with CJE SeniorLife and the Jewish Federation of Metropolitan Chicago, is looking for 2 individuals interested in VISTA (Volunteers in Service to America) positions. VISTA is a national service program sponsored by the Corporation for National and Community Services (CNCS).

VISTA’s will assist HCS with programmatic planning, assessment, and evaluation. Responsibilities will include assessing emerging needs of the current client base of Holocaust survivors including a large percentage from the Former Soviet Union (FSU) and developing strategies to help extend programmatic capacity to plan and implement holistic outreach services and enhance collaborative community responses.

Required Skills:

  • Strong interpersonal skills, tact and diplomacy to handle sensitive and confidential situations

  • Comfortable in a fast-paced, changing environment

  • Able to be nimble, juggle multiple competing tasks and demands

  • Excellent organizational skills; ability to prioritize and complete multiple competing tasks in a strategic and thoughtful manner

  • Strong written and oral communication skills

  • Sold computer skills including Word, Excel and Outlook

  • Capable of working both independently and collaboratively

  • Bilingual in Russian and English preferred

  • Access to car transportation preferred

    Terms and Conditions:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age

  • Must commit to working full-time

  • Must be available to serve a full term, defined as 12 months

  • May not hold a secondary job or do any additional work to supplement the living allowance

  • May not engage in political activities to influence legislation or elections.

  • Must attend pre-service orientation prior to beginning to work.
