Position: Accounting Department Volunteer, Houston
The Accounting Department Volunteer is responsible for providing secretarial, clerical and administrative support in order to ensure that the National MS Society Accounts Payable department serves their inside and outside customers in an effective and efficient manner.
Duties:
The volunteer reports to the Accounts Payable Manager and is responsible for providing office and clerical support services for the Accounts Payable department and staff to assist primarily during busy season.
- Maintain the Accounts Payable department vendor files by filing alphabetically all paid invoices and creating new labels and files as needed for vendors and employees
- Make copies of payments and attach to check requests/invoices, as needed
- Open and date stamp all received mail, as needed
- Look up vendor codes to prepare check requests/invoices for payment, as needed
- Assure that W-9’s are on file for all vendors; call vendors/staff members if the W-9 is missing
- File W-9’s alphabetically
- Do data entry and update spreadsheet, as needed
- Perform other related duties as required
Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Office/clerical experience
- Copy machines, basic experience
- Ability to operate computer, basic experience
- Basic spreadsheet experience
Physical Demands:
- Ability to file documents in a standing, sitting, and kneeling position.

We engage volunteers at every level. Join an event committee, volunteer at a walk or bike event, advocate at the capitol, volunteer at our office, no matter how you choose to contribute, you are doing something about MS now!
The Society is looking for passionate volunteers with expertise in areas such as: marketing communications, public relations, corporate and donor development, medical, legal, administrative and organizational expertise.
