Do you enjoy tinkering with and building things? Do you find satisfaction in getting your hands dirty? If you answered "yes" to either of these questions then you're the person we're looking for!

Neighborhood House is looking for a reliable and self-motivated volunteer to help maintain our sites. With nine sites located throughout south Seattle, we have many projects that could use additional support. Tasks associated with this volunteer role include: general cleaning, sorting items, painting and assembling furniture. You would be working with our Facilities Manager, who would provide you with all the necessary information and training for each project. This is a great opportunity for someone who wants to put their physical talents to use in a meaningful way!

More details about this position:

  • Shifts would be scheduled 1-2 days per week for 4-6 hours per shift. All shifts would be scheduled during regular office hours (M-F, 9:00am-5:00pm).
  • Volunteer should have their own reliable transportation, as they will be asked to travel to our sites.
  • Volunteer should be able to lift 40 lbs.
  • Volunteer should feel comfortable with tools and be able to work with minimal supervision. We prefer if the volunteer has their own tools, but can provide some if necessary.

About Neighborhood House

Location:

1225 S Weller St, Suite 510, Seattle, WA 98144, US

Mission Statement

The mission of Neighborhood House is to help diverse communities of people with limited resources attain their goals for self-sufficiency, financial independence, health, and community building.

Description

We provide free services that are culturally and linguistically relevant to immigrants, refugees, public housing residents, and low-income community members in King County. Neighborhood House was founded in Seattle by the National Council of Jewish Women in 1906, and for 114 years has fought to end the cycles of poverty, racism, and social inequities.

We want to lift children out of poverty. We want them to be healthy and ready to be successful in school and life. We want these children grow up in safe and supportive homes and neighborhoods.

We want to lift families out of poverty by creating opportunities for economic self-sufficiency and asset building.

We want seniors to live healthy, independent lives with respect and dignity, surrounded by friends and a supportive community.

We want to build strong and vibrant communities where everyone feels an attachment to their neighbors and neighborhood, where they work together to solve problems and celebrate their cultural diversity.

And finally, we want to create a greener, more sustainable community where low income families live in neighborhoods that are free of pollution and buffered from rising energy costs.
