Goodwill of the Olympics and Rainier Region was established in 1921 and assists individuals with barriers to employment go to work by providing jobs, training, and educational opportunities. The Goodwill of the Olympics and Rainier Region AmeriCorps team focuses on serving economically disadvantaged individuals who receive job training and other skill development services.

The WorkFirst Program Case Aide helps clients on welfare who are referred to the program obtain employment.

WorkFirst is Washington’s welfare reform program designed to help parents get what they need to prepare for and go to work. It is a partnership between state agencies and communities to work together to provide the necessary services and resources families need to be successful. Across the state hundreds of local organizations and business partners, such as Goodwill of the Olympics and Rainier Region are actively involved.

Goodwill of the Olympics and Rainier Region's WorkFirst program is designed to prepare the hardest to employ WorkFirst families for employment. Clients with children living at home and receiving government assistance are placed on a worksite to learn current work skills and become employable to get off assistance and become self-sufficient. WorkFirst has only five days from the time of the referral to get a client engaged in the program. This is accomplished through coordination with the referring agency, staff and other supporting agencies, such as non-profit employers in the community.

Essential Duties:

  • The responsibility of the WorkFirst Case Aide is to provide services and support to participants referred for WorkFirst services through Goodwill of the Olympics and Rainier Region

  • Meets with clients to help develop resume and job search strategy.

  • Enters actual hours reports in eJAS.

  • Welcomes clients to the WorkFirst office and directs them where to go for assistance.

Qualifications:

  • Counseling

  • Computer/Technology

  • Teaching/Tutoring

  • Writing/Editing

  • General office skills

Service Conditions:

Service conditions are an office environment that involves serving one-on-one and in groups with both Goodwill of the Olympics and Rainier Region staff and participants daily. The intellectual demands of the position include communicating with different individuals with different needs on a case-by-case basis daily. The use of computers, telephones, fax machines, scanners, and copiers are part of the daily duties.

Requirements:

  • Ability to serve full-time for 10 ½ months (from September 1, 2014 to July 15, 2015)

  • Serve 40 hours a week for a total of 1700 hours over the entire service term

  • Be a U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident

  • Must be 18 years of age at the start of the service term

  • Must pass required criminal background checks
