Friends of Occupy Portland (FOOP) is a civic/social welfare organization with a 5 to 10 member board of directors. There are a couple of vacant director positions currently. We are a non-partisan organization that supports a number of local grass-roots community initiatives, and our board seeks to represent the diverse demographics that we serve. Candidates should possess some working knowledge and familiarity with the Occupy Wall Street movement and its manifestations in Portland, Oregon region, and preferably have a history of past or present involvement. This is a working board and requires some commitment and work. Professionalism, creativity, innovative thinking, inclusivity, ability to work together with those whom you may not agree with, and a balance of teamwork and self-directed initiative, are necessary qualities. This would be an ideal position for those who desire to gain professional experience in non-profit or community organizing. Members are expected to attend board meetings (usually once every other month, more or less), stay in frequent communication with other board members via email, and work on various projects in between meetings. Candidates will be interviewed and must be voted in by existing board. If you are unfamiliar with the organization and its culture, you may be asked to volunteer in other non-board capacities for about 6 to 12 months to gain experience before you may serve on the board of directors. Minimum time commitment is a year. Women and ethnic minorities are especially encouraged to apply. Locals only please (remember meeting attendance requirement and other duties). Inquiries from non-local ZIP code (i.e. other than 970, 971, 972 and 986) will not be considered or answered.
