ORGANIZATION: Goodwill of the Olympics and Rainier Region

Goodwill of the Olympics and Rainier Region was established in 1921 and assists individuals with barriers to employment go to work by providing jobs, training, and educational opportunities. The Goodwill of the Olympics and Rainier Region AmeriCorps team focuses on serving economically disadvantaged individuals who receive job training and other skill development services.

The Retail Skills Instructional Aide assists the Retails Skills Instructor with providing job training services.

The Retail Skills Training Program is a 6-9 week training program that combines classroom instruction with on-the-job training. Each course is designed to prepare students for entry into the Retail field. Classroom hours are scheduled for 12 hours a week and on the job training is scheduled for a minimum of 20 hours a week based on business needs.

Essential Duties:

  • Develops and modifies instructional aides and co-facilitates the Retail Skills Training curriculum with whole classes or individuals via tutoring.

  • Performs on-the-job training assistance in Goodwill retail stores, including Orientation and Safety Training.

  • The Retail Skills Instructional Aide acts as a point of contact for community members interested in information about Goodwill of the Olympics and Rainier Region’s Retail Skills Training Program.

  • Maintains case notes, reports, and other necessary documentation for participant files.

  • Assists with ongoing program development and tracking systems, including maintaining spreadsheets, devising program models, and curriculum development as needed.

  • All AmeriCorps members at Goodwill of the Olympics and Rainier Region are required to help organize and participate in team service projects one weekend per month.

  • Ability to serve as substitute instructor for students in the Retail Skills Training Program.

  • Counseling

  • Computer/Technology

  • Teaching/Tutoring

  • Writing/Editing

  • General office skills

Service Conditions:

Service conditions are an office environment that involves serving one-on-one and in groups with both Goodwill of the Olympics and Rainier Region staff and students daily. The intellectual demands of the position include communicating with different individuals with different needs on a case-by-case basis daily. The use of computers, telephones, fax machines, scanners, and copiers are part of the daily duties.

Requirements:

  • Ability to serve full-time for 10 ½ months (from September 1, 2014 to July 15, 2015)

  • Serve 40 hours a week for a total of 1700 hours over the entire service term

  • Be a U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident

  • Must be 18 years of age at the start of the service term

  • Must pass required criminal background checks
