ORGANIZATION: Goodwill of the Olympics and Rainier Region

Goodwill of the Olympics and Rainier Region was established in 1921 and assists individuals with barriers to employment go to work by providing jobs, training, and educational opportunities. The Goodwill of the Olympics and Rainier Region AmeriCorps team focuses on serving economically disadvantaged individuals who receive job training and other skill development services.

The Computer and Office Skills Program Aide assists students in the Computer and Office Skills Training Program. The Program Aide helps students with job search skills while in the program.

Key features of our Computer and Office Skills Training Program are the flexibility and individualization of each student’s training plan. Our Adaptive Computer Lab offers a student to instructor ratio no greater than 15:1. This translates into focused training that addresses the students’ needs such as changing the delivery of the answer so that the student may obtain a better understanding of the topic they are working with. Training plans may vary, but they traditionally include instruction in computer and/or operating systems, keyboarding, email, and Microsoft Office, with assistive technology equipment available if needed.

Essential Duties:

  • Assists students one-on-one who are learning how to operate the Microsoft Office Suite and other software titles, or assistive/adaptive technology.

  • Assists the Computer Skills instructors in preparing for class, managing records, and maintaining the classroom.

  • Provides job search assistance including working with staff to determine eligibility.

  • Completes documentation, including intake packets, vocational service plans, case notes and reports, and maintains the necessary reports and documentation for participant files.

  • All AmeriCorps members at Goodwill of the Olympics and Rainier Region are required to help organize and participate in team service projects one weekend per month.

Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook required.

  • Also required is knowledge of keyboarding and Internet navigation.

  • Microsoft Access preferred, but not required.

  • Counseling

  • Computer/Technology

  • Teaching/Tutoring

  • Writing/Editing

  • General office skills

Service Conditions:

Service conditions are an office environment that involves serving one-on-one and in groups with both Goodwill of the Olympics and Rainier Region staff and students daily. The intellectual demands of the position include communicating with different individuals with different needs on a case-by-case basis daily. The use of computers, telephones, fax machines, scanners, and copiers are part of the daily duties.

Requirements:

  • Ability to serve full-time for 10 ½ months (from September 1, 2014 to July 15, 2015)

  • Serve 40 hours a week for a total of 1700 hours over the entire service term

  • Be a U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident

  • Must be 18 years of age at the start of the service term

  • Must pass required criminal background checks
